Solving Algebraic Equations Part 2
68How to Solve Equations Part 2
A picture speaks a thousand words
In Solving Algebraic Equations Part 1 I show how to solve equations with two terms using an escalator. In this the second part of my mini series I will show you how to solve equations with three terms. To do this I employ a “wall”.
When I was a boy in school I sometimes found it difficult to follow the explanations of teachers who tended to be too wordy. Teachers who talked for the whole lesson lost me at the very beginning of the lesson. I couldn’t understand why when a simple picture could speak a thousand words.
I used my imagination to create a world in which I could do my mathematics and see what was going on. The cartoon world I created helped me to appreciate mathematics to such a degree that I am still teaching children and adults my methods to this day.
Solve for x the equation 3x - 3 = 1
Following is a slide show of the steps involved in solving the equation 3x - 3 = 1
I have also included an animated video of the steps involved at the end of the slide show and a video specially for parents and teachers showing a teaching strategy that is 100% guaranteed to work.

Algebra with Pizzazz - Steve & Janis Marcy
Following is an Amazon link to one of the best resources I have ever used to help my students master algebra. Each of my children used this book among others by the same author and they have never had a problem with their algebra.
>>> Algebra With Pizzazz!: Practice Exercises for the First Year Algebra <<<
Steve and Janis Marcy a husband and wife Maths team are the authors of what in my opinion are the best resources for teaching mathematics from middle school up to high school.
They are the authors of Marcy Mathworks once published as Algebra with Pizzazz, Pre-Algebra with Pizzazz, and Middle School Math with Pizzazz. You can now purchase these resources directly from Steve and Janis from their website Marcy Mathworks.

A learning strategy that always works 100% of the time
It is a child's nature to learn. When adults get out of the way a child can see. When teachers stop talking a child can hear. If it is fun then anyone of any age will learn. That is the truth and it works 100% of the time.

- Solving Algebraic Equations Part 1
In order to simplify what I was being taught in Algebra my mind came up with cartoon like descriptions for the equations I was expected to solve. I found that there were only two kinds of algebraic equations....

Wow nicely done!! Keep up the good work :D
Never Been Taught This Way But It Is So Much Easier To Understand. Thank You!
Agony Aunt, I agree!
