Outer Body Experiences

Updated on September 30, 2011

I lived and worked in Japan for nine years and the last three years I spent in a place called Sakura.

It was a summer 's day during  those final years in Japan and I was taking a nap with my family. It was late afternoon and I was lying beside my wife and two children who were fast asleep. It was hot and humid and I could hear the sound of the crickets.

I was awake and not thinking of anything in particular when it felt like a parting of the waters of the ocean and I was suddenly above my body looking down at the scene from the ceiling. I started to fly around the room above my body and I could clearly see my wife and two children sleeping below. I tried calling to them but they could not hear me.

Then something strange started to happen. I looked at the door and as soon as I did I became the door. I became the wood of the door and yet I was also separate. I became one with the atoms that made up the wood and the scene I could see was visually beautiful and so intricate. I started to feel one with every atom in the universe and it was as if I was the universe. I started to then experience different states that I am simply unable to describe here in words and it was a very exhilarating experience everything kept happening as if layers were being unfolded before me.

I finally became water and during this phase of the experience I became afraid and as soon as I felt fear I emerged from the water as if I had been under water and popped up to the surface. Up to this point I was not aware of my breathing or that I needed to breathe until I emerged from the experience gasping for breath as if I had been submerged in water and was drowning. I woke my wife and children who became concerned when they saw me in distress gasping for air beside them.

The out of body experience left me feeling separate from myself but yet connected in a way I had never felt before. It reminded me of the first time I had ever read about the idea that we may not be our bodies. I was eighteen years old and and I opened the newspaper to an article written by Raymond Moody MD in which he recounted numerous interviews with people from all over the united States who had died for a few minutes and came back to life. I was fascinated by what this Psychiatrist had to say.The fact that he was a medical practitioner gave authenticity to what he had to say and I was so enthralled that it sparked in me an interest that I would follow for the rest of my life.

Soon after I bought his book Life After Life. I could not put the book down and my views about life and death would be changed forever. In his book Life After Life Raymond Moody deals with over a hundred real case studies of people who were deemed clinically dead and were subsequently revived. The book was first published in 1975 and at the time of the writing of this hub has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon with over 90 positve reviews. This amazing exploration into life after death revolutionised peoples' attitudes at the time about the life after death and established Raymond Moody as the world's leading authority in the whole area of near-death experiences. I am just one of millions whose ideas regarding death were completely changed as a result of reading this book and it all makes such perfect sense.

The case studies included in the book very clearly provide tangible evidence for life after death. The testimonials recounted by Dr Moody bear out his positive message for the world and put death in the perspective it was always meant to be and not something dark or anything we need fear.

Life After Life by Dr Raymond Moody

Dr Moody went on to write several more books on of which gives detailed proof of reincarnation. This book is called Life Before Life and is an equally captivating read that will change the way you think about life and make you appreciate the miracle that is your life right now.
